New Game Demo!

And behold, here's the new game demo that I am currently working on while working on the Magikiras beta testing at the same time. Current title is Carebanet Girls and yes, your character is in fact a girl during to story and thematic reasons which the player will find out after a short while into the game.

As it is right now, it's relative short, clocking in at 11 to 12k words during these two opening Chapters which will be a short introduction to the world and the main characters involved in this game. Current goal is to test out a slightly more random gaming style ala the old gamebooks of yesteryear where you roll dice to determine the outcome of a situation. Some people will like it, some won't obviously but we don't get anywhere by not trying new things won't we?

So here's the link to this game demo which will be released here first.

Carebanet Girls

Update August 30 2015
Uploaded the first half of Chapter 3 complete with the first version of the combat system. Might be a little complex and/or complicated though. Should I put in a tutorial?

Update August 31 2015
Minor update in which I've added the choice of what kind of clothes you're wearing and what color they are. Also I checked on the game's choices and noticed that you are able to achieve a particular stat level within the game. You may now enjoy the power of courage, the magic of friendship, the endurance of hope or IMAGINATION!
One last update for today: I've added one more option for the combat system so that every skill can be used in a fight. Cheers.

Update September 7 2015
Got past the writing block and finished Chapter 3 today. Will take a break first before working on my layout for Chapter 4.

Update September 21 2015
And just updated the game with Chapter 4 today. Nothing big except that the romance scenes have now been started on.

Update October 2 2015
And updated today with Chapter 5. A new boss fight and my brain is still reeling from a marathon watch of the entire Symphogear series. Need to rest my brain for a bit before I get to work on adding new things for Magikiras.

Update October 12 2015
Chapter 6 is now online and with this, approximately 50% of the game is done.

Update November 5 2015
Chapter 7 is finally done at this point after some delays, mostly due to writing a new ending for Magikiras and some RL issues that cropped up recently.

Update November 18 2015
Chapter 8 is now online and there is now some Nana and Jaime (properly renamed at this point) bits in this chapter after two parts without them.

Note November 30 2015
Requested for the CoG forum for this game to be closed since it doesn't seem to be serving its purpose of getting some feedback and ideas from the crowd. Will still continue working on this game of course since I'm actually relatively close to the finish line with this (currently working on Chapter 9 and should be able finish the planned 13 chapters of this game).

Update December 11 2015
Probably the last update of the year but Chapter 9 is now done. This is now the final stretch of the game with four more Chapters left to go.

Update January 11 2015
And now Chapter 10 is done. Game has been appropriately updated for this new chapter. Now, there should just be three Chapters left to go until the game is finished.

Update January 26 2016
Chapter 11 has now been uploaded. Looks like I'm back on track with my writing progress. Two Chapters left to go with the next one being the battle against the final Being. After that is the ending Chapter so...yay?

Update February 16 2016
And now, three weeks after Chapter 11 is done, I give you Chapter 12. The final fight is now done and over with and now it's time to work on the endings. Hopefully, there won't be any further changes to the startup variables after this. Anyways, I've also added a passcode system that is supposed to give you extra stats from the start of the game and which will only be given at the end of the game.

Update March 10 2016
After long last, I've finished Chapter 13. There's a total of twenty endings (not including ending variations) in this chapter and most of them are pretty short (about 1k words sadly but I dare not write too much or else the endings will all be pretty long. Guess it's now time for the full testing treatment.

Update April 3 2016
1) Reduced game's difficulty. Enemies do less damage, receive more damage and have less health than before (about 50% less). For the truly masochistic, a Hard mode has been added to the game which restores the enemy's health and gives them a special attack.

2) Added a critical hit function where you inflict more damage if you beat the target number by a certain amount. The bonus damage is increased if you use a support action to pull this off. As of right now, there's no visual indication or changed text to show the crit though.

3) Standard typo fixes and such but I'm certain there's still more.

Next on the list is adding a new chapter for a little more character interaction and to spread things out between Chapter 3 and Chapter 5.

Update April 16 2016
Finished the new chapter so that there is a longer break between the Wand and the Pentacle class. Also fixed a bug in the hard mode fights that was pointed out.

From this point onwards, I will only be working on bugs and errors in Carebanet Girls by the way. I've got an idea that I should probably be working on right now.

Still ongoing

Beta testing is still continuing at this point and in between corrections, it's time for something fresh to do otherwise it'll be really boring during the wait. So it's back to the original plan that eventually turned into Magikiras (somehow, weirdly enough).

Lots to do, lots to do.

Puzzle Guide Part 4

The ultimate killer puzzle, mostly because in the original version, it'd kill you if you solve it incorrectly. A few things of note for this puzzle. There is a selection limit: once you've hit the buttons 20 times, it will end the puzzle although if you hit the correct sequence on the last try, you will be still have succeeded.

A second thing of note is that if you hit the wrong grid, the puzzle will reset itself and you will need to restart from the first grid again. Sadistic, I know. Alright then, let's get down to the meat of the puzzle and tackle this thing once and for all.

Earlier in the chapter, Larry will give you the answer to the puzzle via a vision, telling you that the key is the first note is B flat and then C, D flat, E flat, F, G flat and A flat. But later when you run into the puzzle, there are no mention of the word flats, only sharps. So how should things be done?

During the opening sequence, it is mentioned that one of the key is tingling, which is the A sharp key. Hit that one and you will be told that it's the correct one and in the beta, you will get a bunch of bad references and horrible puns to help you along the way.

For those without that access, note that B flat = A sharp. So if that pattern stands, that would mean that D flat = C sharp, E flat = D sharp, G flat = F sharp and A flat = G sharp. So that would mean that the sequence to press is A sharp, C, C sharp, D sharp, F, F sharp and G sharp. Try that out and see for yourself.

Oh in case, you're wondering, that's the B flat minor scale.

Puzzle Guide Part 3

The next puzzle is an optional one and will only be encountered if you choose to or failed a previous check. This one is a keypad puzzle and looks very much like a the numberpad on your keyboard (unless you're using a laptop that is).

Anyways, here's what the keypad puzzle looks like

  |-7-|-8-|-9-|

  |-4-|-5-|-6-|

  |-1-|-2-|-3-|

The Knight is exiled from from the Central Kingdom and makes his way north-west before wanderlust claims his heart and he travels across the lands, making his way south first, visiting each land once.

Looking at the keypad, the central kingdom obviously refers to the number 5 and after being exiled, moves to the number 7. After that, he moves south, visiting each land once. Obviously this means 4 right?

Of course not! It's a puzzle so it needs a little more trickery than that. After all, it is a Knight who's moving around the keypad and as everyone knows, Knights make L-jumps. From 7, there's only one place for the Knight to go to and I will leave the rest of the jumps to your plotting since there's only one way for the Knight to move.

TLDR, the answer is 572943816

Puzzle Guide Part 2

Alright. After that one comes the bomb puzzle at the end of the Die Hard: Zawame Tower edition where you need to defuse the bomb left behind by Morgan, provided you managed to reach it in time. The hints provided in-game are as follows:

1) When your hand is over the orange icon, the red one flashes once and the yellow one twice.

2) When your hand is over the red icon, the orange one flashes twice.

3) When your hand is over the yellow icon, the orange one flashes once and the green one flashes twice.

4) When your hand is over the blue icon, the green one flashes once and the violet one twice.

5) When your hand is over the green icon, the yellow one flashes once and the blue one flashes twice.

6) When your hand is over the violet icon, the blue one flashes once.

7) When your hand is over the black icon, all of the icons light up.

Now you can choose to either work this puzzle out or you can use your stats to bypass this section. The stats part will require a maximized stat so it might be hard to use that option. The other option is to figure out what the flashing lights mean,

What does one flash mean and two flash mean? That seems to dictate that a certain icon is hit before that icon and the next flash indicates which icon is pressed after the other one. So using that logic, two possible combinations are

1) Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet.

or

2) Violet, blue, green, yellow, orange, red.

But what about black? Black is an odd one out isn't it since it makes all of the icon light up. Either you have to hit it or you don't but it's safer to hit it just in case. When do you hit it? Anytime seems like a good time to hit the black icon since it doesn't appear anywhere on the icon list of must hits in order.

TLDR. If you just want the answer, go for red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet and black as the last button.

Puzzle Guide Part 1

Alright. Time to get a little serious in that I am aware that some people don't really want to do puzzles in a Choice type game so here's a quick guide for the puzzles in the game. This post will cover the first one, which is the cryptic note that you received on your phone.

First incident reveals sincere truth, Massive evolution emminent today, Metropolis efficient, Altruism tenable, Connection orienal reach and save my eminence, Save his opalescent petrified pelican in negligible grain, Malignant animal lives long, Attention tenable, Time wasted endlessly not time yielded, Time was omitted,  Heave under nature's discretion remain eternally depressed! Courage onerous maliciously earned, Aim lateral ominous never egregious, Animosity negated definitely, Infernal nocturnal forces odious random matter adroit timed into overwhelming nations, Wave in laxative lingerie, Bees enormous, Proceed retreat omit various instances dangerously elegant dandy, Under penalty onto nosferatu, Ambitious rich regent into vicious amorphous legislative!

Looks pretty much gibberish doesn't it? And it is gibberish for the most part. There is no way that anyone can get any kind of message from that by trying to glean a meaning from it. So immediately cross out trying to understand the message. It's not supposed to work that way.

But if we're not looking for a meaning by deciphering the message, how is it supposed to be done then? The answer is staring right at you actually. Take the first letter from every word and use the punctuations and captital letters to guide you in forming a word. For example, First incident reveals sincere truth,

First
incident
reveals
sincere
truth

See the pattern that emerged there? Repeat that for the rest of the message and you'll get a location where you have to head to next, if you are so inclined to do so.

That's it for today's post. I will slowly post up the solutions to the other puzzles in the game so stay tune.

TLDR You can just key in mall at the appropriate prompt.

First Post

First post and it's here that I will start my announcement of my completed and currently in beta-test game, called Magikiras. In the not too distant future, magic has returned to our world and you are a young soldier fresh out of boot camp. You are trained in the eponymous Magikiras, an exoskeleton frame that surrounds your body and  acts as a suit of armor, to aid you in the field of battle. While you also fight humans, a strange enemy known as Fiends have emerged, slinking from the darkness and fighting against humanity in general.

The link to the mostly finished game is below although it's not being updated anymore since it's time for the closed beta. Also stop by and visit the Choice of Games forum where you can post up some comments on my topic and volunteer for beta-testing.

Thanks and here's to getting the game out soon!
